Goa Bharatiya Janata Party president Sadanand Shet Tanavade was elected unopposed as the coastal state's lone Rajya Sabha member on Tuesday.
Tanavade's election was a foregone conclusion last week, after Opposition parties, namely the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward and Revolutionary Goans, jointly boycotted the polls to the Upper House of Parliament.

Tanavade is the second consequtive state president of the BJP to be appointed to the Rajya Sabha after his predecessor Vinay Tendulkar, whose term is set to expire on July 28 this year.
"I am deeply humbled and grateful for the trust and confidence bestowed upon me by the people of Goa and my fellow colleagues," Tanavade said after his election to the Upper House.
The ruling BJP currently has 28 MLAs in the forty member state legislative assembly and also has the support of five other MLAs, including two from the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.
The Opposition in the state assembly currently comprises of just seven MLAs, which includes three Congress MLAs, two legislators of the AAP and one MLA each from the Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans party.
